So I strike off for the hamlet of Uhhun, the most creatively named town since this one. As a newly recruited mercenary itвЂ™s my job to go find this evil doer and bring him to justice. Once I do, he tells me that thereвЂ™s a murderer on the loose in a nearby hamlet and heвЂ™s way too busy avoiding the people who work for him to do anything about it. I can only assume the only reason I eventually caught this jerk was he had to stop and catch his breath from both laughing hysterically at and running away from me at the same time. Shades of playing tag as the fat kid growing up I tell you. ThatвЂ™s me trying to chase down my factionвЂ™s admiral. Even more frustrating is being able to see your target running away from you.

Once you get there, itвЂ™s pretty much a crapshoot whether or not your target will remain in the area or move on leaving youВ in their dust. So then you have to ride to the nearest town to once again ask where your evasive quest giver is, only to find that heвЂ™s moved to another town on the other side of the region. Trying to find characters in the overworld is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, only imagine that the haystack is as large as an Olympic sized swimming pool, and the needle is constantly moving while you look for it.В You can get information from nobles about where the character youвЂ™re looking for is, but once you start heading there then that character may start moving. This is the part of Warband that I am quickly beginning to loathe.

He letвЂ™s me know that I can work for the Khanate as a mercenary, and after IвЂ™ve done some work for them theyвЂ™ll consider letting me be a full fledged member.В He also lets me know that the KhanateвЂ™s admiral is in the field and looking for willing men to help him with a task. I meet one of the petty lords in TulgaвЂ™s main castle and swear my fealty to the Khanate. IвЂ™ve decided to align myself with the Kherig Khanate, mostly because thatвЂ™s the region where my game started and mostly because I happened to be close to Tulga when I decided to get serious about beating this game. As much as it hurts me to say it, Ash Tray will have to try his hand at adventuring once more.

IвЂ™ve spent a lot of time and energy focusing on winning this game as a merchant, only the points IвЂ™ve gained from being rich are almost immediately cancelled out by the points IвЂ™ve already lost. Aside from saving that merchantвЂ™s brother, I havenвЂ™t aligned myself to any faction, or done any quests. IвЂ™ve also not been the friendliest person in Calradia. 700 points may not seem like a lot, but IвЂ™m already 100 in the hole for days passed in game. After the dust settles and the fighting is done, I want to hang my hat up Sam Malone style. With all the fluctuation in scoring it will take a lot of time to retire as a noble, so IвЂ™ve decided to set my my sights on a realistic target: Certain actions such as making friends and controlling towns earns points, while days spent and battles lost will garner negative points.В There are several ways to earn points, and a lot of ways to lose them too.

Warband counts every action you take in Calradia and assigns it a point value. Considering I bought the game for under 5 dollars, IвЂ™d say I got my moneyвЂ™s worth. I donвЂ™t want to spend any more time on Warband than I have to, IвЂ™ve already plunged almost 20 hours into it. While there is a certain appeal to being one of the more influential leaders in a fictional world, I have a list to complete and eventually games to buy. There are 10 possible outcomes for Ash Tray once I decide to retire, ranging from being a beggar or a thief, all the way up to being an established noble within one of the factions of Calradia. So IвЂ™ve finally decided to take a gander at the win conditions and scoring for Mount and Blade Warband.
